A melodrama set in a surreal Victorian town’s haberdashery. The allegory of an apprentice seamstress, her imagined blue mouse and the hoi polloi’s disgust at the unveiling of a new public statue form an ironic response to civic debate and corruption. The highly stylized play is written in two versions for both genders; intended to be performed on alternate nights, the work attempts to examine the commonality of subjugation and power between the sexes and was written in response to the 1986 NZ Homosexual Law Reform Bill.
