Matt is a teacher at a small country school in the 1990s. He and the principal, Des, are locking horns over the fate of a 15-year-old Māori boy, Lawrence. Lawrence is a constant offender, and Des has decided he should be sent to a new ‘full-immersion’ Te Reo Māori school for troubled Māori youth. Matt is against the idea, believing Lawrence is better served staying where he is. There seems to be no solution in sight, especially as Lawrence’s claims about race, racism and culture become more and more bizarre, to the point where Des can no longer ignore them.

White City examines race relations in New Zealand, and the clash between political motives and personal ambitions. White City was runner-up for the Adam New Zealand Play Award 2012.
